As you might have guessed, I love route planning and exploring new places. I also love helping others to discover the world as I do.
It can take much time and effort to plan rides and runs, especially in unfamiliar areas. For a small fee I can provide individually tailored self-guided routes for all abilities to follow, be it for a family holiday or simply an individual exploring new places. A route plan may be for tarmac (road) or trail (off-road) or both, and for cycling or running. Routes may take the form of a single loop, end to end, or out and back, and may be single or multi-day…it really is up to you. You tell me where you want to go, when, how far, and for how long and I’ll do the rest…
You will be presented with an emailed (hard-copy on request) route plan which will include the following:
- A printable map of the route, emailed to you with an attached GPX and/or FIT file, so that the route can be followed using a cycling computer or compatible watch.
- A route profile with elevation data.
- Options for getting to and from the start/finish point(s), with recommendations for parking.
- Route instructions to help keep you on track.
- Bail-out or shorter route options (where available).
- Places of interest to look out for or visit along the route.
- Cafe, restaurant, pub or shop stops.
- Recommended accommodation for overnight stops (if required) with prices.
- Bike hire and bike shops (where available).
- General advice to guide the cyclist or runner, usually specific to the route.
I charge £25 per hour for route planning. As a guide, a single day route, with all the associated guidance and advice, may take approximately 2-4 hours to create, whereas a full-week tour can take 8-10+ hours. I am open to negotiation, of course!
